New car prices in Montenegro 2026: the cheapest models from Kia, Dacia, Toyota, Renault, Volkswagen and BYD

What is the cheapest new car in Montenegro? On the importers' price lists the Kia Picanto costs 15,490 euros on offer, the Dacia Sandero 17,490 euros and the Toyota Aygo X hybrid 18,900 euros on offer. The cheapest electric car is the Renault Twingo E-Tech, at 22,490 euros. Prices include 21% VAT.

Which new cars are the cheapest?

The Kia Picanto's list is valid until a new one is published or the stock runs out. Kia gives a 7-year or 150,000 km warranty on the whole car.

What do electric and hybrid cars cost?

What does a new car cost after the purchase?

A new passenger car pays for the registration certificate form, 5 euros, and number plates, 10 euros, plus compulsory third-party insurance at the tariff of the insurer you choose. The annual road charge depends on engine size: 10.50 euros for 901 to 1,350 cm³ and 16 euros for 1,351 to 1,800 cm³. Since August 2026 a new car has its first technical inspection only two years after first registration. A foreigner registers a car at their place of temporary or permanent residence in Montenegro, so buying a car in your own name requires a residence permit first. The permit itself is handled by lawyers such as RoNa Legal's residence permit service.

New, imported or used?

Montenegro's roads are old: the average registered vehicle is more than 17 years old, and only 7,285 new cars were registered in 2025. Importing a car yourself costs 21% VAT plus 0% or 5% customs duty depending on where the car was made, and only cars meeting at least Euro 5 may be imported used, as our guide to importing a car explains.
