What are the rules for riding a motorcycle in Montenegro? The rider and any passenger must wear a fastened, approved motorcycle helmet, and since 7 August 2026 the fine is 100 to 300 euros. You may not carry a child under 12, dipped headlights or daytime running lights must be on during the day, and a group must ride in single file. A motorcycle pays 1.50 euros for the motorway, 1.00 euro for the Sozina tunnel and 2.50 euros on the Kamenari ferry.
The rules come from the Law on Road Traffic Safety, with the amendments in force since 7 August 2026, and the prices from the toll decision and the ferry operator, checked on 25 September 2026.

What about winter tyres, registration and importing a bike?
- Winter tyres: the general winter tyre rule in the law applies to cars and goods vehicles, not motorcycles, but on the mountain roads listed in the ministry's order winter tyres are required on all motor vehicles, motorcycles included.
- Registration: a motorcycle plate costs 6 euros and a personalised plate 200 euros, as our guide to vehicle registration explains.
- Importing a used bike: a used motorcycle must meet at least Euro 4, and a new one Euro 5.
- Insurance: compulsory third-party insurance is needed, and a green card for a foreign-registered bike.
