Which number do you call in an emergency in Montenegro? Call 112 for any emergency, or the direct numbers: 124 for an ambulance, 122 for the police, 123 for fire and rescue and 129 for help at sea. The ambulance service has units in 24 towns and works around the clock, and 112 takes calls in English, Italian, Russian and Albanian.

112 has worked in Montenegro since 2008. It is run by the Operational Communication Centre 112, which has three centres, in Podgorica, Bijelo Polje and Bar. It can locate Android phones automatically and receives eCall alerts from cars after a crash.

On 24 September 2026 Podgorica alone had 154 ambulance examinations, Budva 49 and Nikšić 42, and ambulance teams treated 12 people injured in road accidents.
How does the ambulance service work?
The Institute for Emergency Medical Service runs units in Andrijevica, Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Budva, Cetinje, Danilovgrad, Gusinje, Herceg Novi, Kolašin, Kotor, Mojkovac, Nikšić, Petnjica, Plav, Pljevlja, Plužine, Podgorica, Rožaje, Tivat, Tuzi, Ulcinj, Žabljak and Zeta. A team is made up of a doctor and two nurses or medical technicians, one of whom drives. It works 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and 124 is the same number in every municipality.

What should a visitor arrange before travelling?
Emergency care is given to anyone, but who pays depends on your insurance.
