- Taxis in Podgorica have special registration plates marked PG-TX and an illuminated TAXI sign on the roof with the city's coat of arms and the name Podgorica, which switches off when the taximeter is turned on.

What rules apply in a taxi?
- The driver must switch on the taximeter, and the passenger pays the amount it shows.
- The driver must take the shortest route or the route the passenger chooses, in line with the traffic rules.
- The driver may take on another passenger only with the consent of the passenger who started the ride.
- The driver must finish a ride that has started or provide another vehicle as soon as possible; if not, the driver cannot charge for the distance already covered.
- Smoking in a taxi is banned for both the driver and the passengers.
- On request the driver issues a receipt with the operator's name, the vehicle registration number, the date and time of the ride, the distance in kilometres and the amount.
How do you avoid overpaying and where do you report a driver?
- Before setting off, check that the taximeter is on, and for longer trips, for example to the airport or another town, agree the price in advance.
- Ask for a receipt, because it proves the route, the kilometres and the amount if you report the driver.
- In Podgorica the municipal police check order at taxi ranks and compliance with the taxi rules, and a driver who does not issue a receipt or does not take the shortest route pays €20 to €300.
